Archives For government
The first method for estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him.
Very interesting listen. Proof that people on opposing positions can have civil dialogue without placing their ideologies first.
A mentally disturbed individual poses a far greater threat than an inanimate object. What is the common correlation between these shootings in gun-free safe zones besides the fact that a gun was the tool employed- mental instability. From what I’ve witnessed of the Tumblr “gun control debate outrage” people have a general lack of understanding of early American history hints why they are so quick to dismiss the 2nd amendment of the Constitution. They care less about the overall principle behind the law and would rather abolish it all together due to its “archaic nature.” Why stop at just the second amendment though? By employing this logic surely ending the first amendment will stop all speech and expression deemed to be harmful will it not? Furthermore I also question those that demand for more laws, as if more laws ever solved any problems.
The US is experiencing the same immigration fatigue as seen in the European Union. There is a threat that relatively open borders pose to employment and economic standard of living. New stories of 40,000 migrant children without parents crossing the Texas border is frightening stuff. What will happen to these children? Why were they forced north? They cannot be said to be criminals no. In Europe, thousands of migrants from the wars in Africa and the Middle East are crowding into E.U. nations. This is causing a natural reaction among the populations living in these developed countries, that is not attributed to anything more than adherence to the laws in place regarding immigration. Marine Le Pen in France expresses sentiments that many Americans can agree with. Its time that we stop being force fed this idea of amnesty for all and a free ticket into the United States.
Healthcare premiums and deductibles will go up along with property tax’s for schools to educate these influxes of children. Taxes will go up to place these individuals in homes and institutions, while we Americans continue to provide aid to these same countries where these individuals left from. Americans lose either way from political and economic to the national security risk.
Apparently if you show some semblance of critical thinking or hesitation when someone states global warming is our top priority you are now a “science-denier.” I find the sciences to be great processes but when someone wishes to dictate political and economic policies based on science, harsh scrutiny must be done. When someone asks to borrow your money do you not find out how much is required and how it will be purposed?
What the government is good at is collecting taxes, taking away your freedoms and killing people. It’s not good at much else.
All this government shutdown has shown me is how ridiculously screwed up the political sector is. Instead of backing the Democrats who are systematically sabotaging our economy for their own personal gain in 2016, we ought to insist upon removing these politicians and replacing them with people of principles and integrity. We ought to insist on downsizing the government so it won’t be in a position to sabotage its own people again. And while many might say it is the Republicans in the Houses fault, that is only half the story and besides the point. The House is supposed to be the peoples part of the government. We are the ones who are supposed to dictate terms and the budget not the president more concerned with leaving his legacy (for good or bad).
Naturally people are hasty to blame the opposing ideology for the faults of the government. But of course this lacks any perspective at all. After all, the flavor of the pork varies between the parties but its all pork nonetheless.
I believe in political equality. But there are two opposite reasons for being a democrat. You may think all men so good that they deserve a share in the government of the commonwealth, and so wise that the commonwealth needs their advice. That is, in my opinion, the false, romantic doctrine of democracy. On the other hand, you may believe fallen men to be so wicked that not one of them can be trusted with any irresponsible power over his fellows.
That I believe to be the true ground of democracy. I do not believe that God created an egalitarian world. I believe the authority of parent over child, husband over wife, learned over simple to have been as much a part of the original plan as the authority of man over beast. I believe that if we had not fallen…patriarchal monarchy would be the sole lawful government. But since we have learned sin, we have found, as Lord Acton says, that ‘all power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.’ The only remedy has been to take away the powers and substitute a legal fiction of equality. The authority of father and husband has been rightly abolished on the legal plane, not because this authority is in itself bad (on the contrary, it is, I hold, divine in origin), but because fathers and husbands are bad. Theocracy has been rightly abolished not because it is bad that learned priests should govern ignorant laymen, but because priests are wicked men like the rest of us. Even the authority of man over beast has had to be interfered with because it is constantly abused.
